Airtel plans to expand its 4G network in Kolkata
Telecom major Airtel plans to its existing 4G network in the city, which would attract an investment of Rs 1,500 to Rs 3,000 crores to expand its mobile broadband service."Airtel officials had met with me to increase the coverage of the fiber network from anywhere between 500 km and 1000 km, to develop 4G services," said Kolkata Municipal Corporation (MMC) Mayor in Council (engineering health) Atin Ghosh.
"We expect the license agreement Airtel necessary project for laying of cables and said that they be reversed in the next 7-10 days," he said.
"If you put 1000 km fiber for 4G technology, the investment will be over Rs 3,000 crore," Ghosh said.
The development comes after Mukesh Ambani-controlled Infocomm Jio function attempts to start the 4G network across the city and met with KMC for the right of way to a 750 km fiber optic network.
Airtel without specifying the number of 4G wireless subscribers and how fast is 4g said they had launched the service in April to life, and the cover is so far invested Rs 600 crore for urban network only in the central business district of the city.
